Needing some advice/answers. I am in nursing school so I think of the worst possible thing that could be wrong with me. Anyways, I had a sinus infection a couple weeks ago and recently just finished the antibiotics. I feel a tension type of pain above both of my ears. I kept telling myself something was wrong with my brain, because hey, nursing school makes you think of the worst possible case. My anxiety has been super bad, I might actually start the antiaxiety pills soon because I think I am freaking out about nothing. Any advice?

I suffer with sinus infections and during my last one the doctor would not prescribe me antibiotics, as apparently they have been proven to not be effective for these types of infection. What you are suffering could well be after effects from your infection or maybe the infection has not cleared. Being a nurse I’m sure you are aware that the ear, nose and throat are all connected. I’m sure you are fine, enjoy nursing school, my sister still says it was one of the most fun times in her life!

You have the old saying, Doctor Heal Yourself, the problem is you are unable to switch off from what you have been dealing with. To be honest you are living the dream and you need to be able to switch of from that and carry on with your Course.

Take it another way. You are looking at a patient just arrived, do you look for the worse diagnosis before those important tests or do you burst ou something that would upset the patient, that would be counterproductive.

Anxiety in your life needs to be controlled you need to be a nurse that comforts a patient, not a nurse who start to agree with a patients illness and wish to compere notes. You need to be objective and understand your own health and body, you need to be strong not only for the patient, also for yourself.

A job as a nurse is not easy and I understand you are not alone when it comes to health concerns. You are being educated use that and consider your informed choices you are well, understand your body and move on.

I would have loved to have been a Nurse. Enjoy the privilidge

Hi again  Sinus infections can be difficult to clear up but are not life threatening. So I think you need to give it a little time to go away. The headache is part of the infection and should be controllable using simple pain killers. If it persists then just have a word with the dr just s an update. BTW drs and medical students are worse than student nurses and/or trained staff, just part of the job. take care.
